Yuko Taniguchi, author of the critically acclaimed book of poetry Foreign Wife Elegy, was born in Yokohama, Japan, in 1975. At the age of fifteen, she came to the United States and attended high school in Maryland. She earned her undergraduate degree at the College of St. Benedict / St. John’s University and her MFA from the University of Minnesota. Taniguchi has taught at the University of Minnesota, Loft Literary Center, and Rochester Community and Technical College and has received awards and fellowships from the Jerome Foundation, McKnight Foundation, and Minnesota State Arts Board. She lives with her husband, a nurse at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota. The Ocean in the Closet is her first novel.
