A record-setting poetry slam champion, Patricia Smith has performed at the Sorbonne, in Carnegie Hall, on tour with Lollapalooza, in the film Slamnation, and on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam. Her 2006 National Poetry Series-winning collection, Teahouse of the Almighty, received the Paterson Poetry Prize and the first-ever Hurston / Wright Legacy Award in the poetry category. Smith is also a frequent contributor to Harriet, the Poetry Foundation’s popular blog, and one of the featured poets in the first episode of the Borders Open Door Poetry program.
