Dear friends of good books,
This year Coffee House Press has much to celebrate, and we're asking you to help us celebrate with a tax-deductible donation. Our authors have been finalists, and in some cases winners, of many national and local awards. We have published books that have garnered great reviews, tickled readers' imaginations, and touched a few hearts. Highlights include poet Ron Padgett on A Prairie Home Companion reading from his latest collection of poetry, How to Be Perfect; Patricia Smith winning the first Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award for poetry with her book, Teahouse of the Almighty; and Kao Kalia Yang illuminating the Hmong immigration experience with her book The Latehomecomer, and in the process, inspiring young Hmong students to stay in school and healing a few wounds from the Vietnam era. We're even making our mark in Europe, with more than 100,000 copies of Sam Savage's Firmin selling like hotcakes in Spain and Italy. This fall, as our 24th year begins, our board and staff will begin working on a strategic plan that will explore new horizons in publishing poetry and cutting-edge fiction. We're not just preparing for our 25th anniversary—we're laying the groundwork for our 50th. To cap it off, Coffee House is moving to a new office space. After nineteen years in the Minneapolis warehouse district, our building has been sold. We've found a great location in the Grain Belt Building, an old beer bottling plant in Minneapolis now owned and managed by the nonprofit organization Artspace, dedicated to helping arts organizations like Coffee House. We're excited about the new space and the possibilities it opens for Coffee House's future, but a transition like this will require extra support. We want you to be part of our success. Donations from people like you are why we're still brewing the kind of challenging, inspiring, thought-provoking books you care about. Now, your gift will help us continue with our recent successes and provide the funds we'll need to move into our new home. To make a tax-deductible donation to Coffee House Press, please visit our web site. We thank you for your past support and look forward to continuing to provide you with a fully caffeinated literary wake-up call.
To life and literature,
Allan Kornblum, Publisher
