Anne
Waldman extends the theme of "male energy," by unmasking this power
in all its guises - historical, mythical, political, philosophical, spiritual,

energies, calling on female voices to join the male. Iovis Book II takes on an

Waldman
steps into Indonesia, Mexico, and India as easily as
she glides into antiquity, flowing from the present
- Bosnia, AIDS, and gun control - to Sappho, classic
archetypes, and Greek myth. She invokes modernist painter
Philip Guston’s Muse and laments dear friends and lovers
now lost. This poem is a diatribe and a passionate exploration
