Jordan Ellenberg was born in Potomac, Maryland in 1971. His brilliance as a mathematical prodigy led to gold medals at the Math Olympiad in Cuba and Germany. He received undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard and a masters degree from Johns Hopkins and is now an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University. His column, Do the Math, appears regularly in the online journal Slate. He lives with his wife in Princeton, New Jersey. The Grasshopper King is his first novel.
